East Texas Members Join Around Pay Raise Fight During Lunchtime Organizing Events

Rusk State Hospital Workers

Rusk State Hospital workers rallied to the fight for a pay raise in May, with 61 new members joining TSEU in one day. Already in June, 25 more workers had joined their union as members organize to build state employee power in East Texas.

With a $6,000 state employee pay raise won by TSEU this session, union members in East Texas are notching the victory – and are committing to continue building the strength of our union in order to win the rest of the pay raise needed to keep good workers on the job and rebuild quality state services. Together, we are stronger!

Yolanda White, a longtime activist and TSEU Executive Board member for East Texas, helped organize and participate in an organizing event at the Lufkin State Supported Living Center on June 1st. Yolanda and new activist Marie Rodriguez are pictured above behind the information table. On the first of each month, two or three food trucks set up on campus and the union set up an information table by them. Fifteen new members signed up at the event.
