TDCJ Caucus strategize plan to address Parole Officer caseloads

FALL 2019 STATEWIDE CAUCUS MEETING, recap

During their November 2nd statewide meeting, the TDCJ Caucus worked to formalize plans for the current caseload and pay raise campaigns. In the 86th Legislative Session (2019), HB 4754 was passed authoring a caseloads study to determine the manageability of caseloads. In an effort to communicate the TDCJ caseload epidemic, members are organizing multiple actions in 2020. Our first step is to bombard the Senate Criminal Justice Committee and the House Corrections Committee with caseload postcards reporting the actual number of parolees that parole officers supervised each month. Our second step is actual legislative visits with members of the Senate Criminal Justice Committee and the House Corrections Committees. TSEU parole activists in Dallas have already met with Representatives Rhetta Bowers, Carl Sherman and Victoria Neave. The meeting agendas include: high caseload numbers, staff turnover, morale and public safety.
