FALL 2019 STATEWIDE CAUCUS MEETING, recap
SSLC/State Hospital-TSEU activists George Sheffield (Denton SSLC, retired), Ron Haight (Terrell State Hospital), Arthur Valdez (San Antonio State Hospital), Sean Glenn (El Paso SSLC), Mike Collins (Denton SSLC) and Jim Pearson (Austin State Hospital) met in Austin on November 9th for the first Caucus meeting since the Legislative session. Members said it was despicable that the legislature failed to pass a pay raise while turnover is near an all time high but they remained determined to mobilize for the emergency pay raise TSEU is working for. Caucus members made plans to meet with the Deputy Commissioner over Facilities to hold HHSC accountable to its employees and a make a strong case for an across-the-board pay raise in its next Legislative Appropriations Request. Members were boosted by the recent strong organizing momentum and recognize that this is what it will take to propel state employees to win a pay raise, additional staff, career ladders and the respect they deserve on the job.
