New tax plan raises the cost of higher education!

The newest tax proposal, currently making its way through Congress, would make higher education even more expensive and would raise taxes on education benefits.

Who woud be affected and how:

  • Graduate students: You would now owe tax on the value of your grad student tuition waivers.
  • Campus employees: You would now owe tax on the value of any tuition waivers.
  • Spouse or child of a University employee: You would now owe tax on the value of any tuition discounts.
  • ALSO, interest paid on student loans would no longer be tax deductible.

Act now to keep your taxes from increasing dramatically!

Our elected officials need to hear from YOU!  Call Senators Ted Cruz and John Cornyn, tell them:
Hello, my name is ____________ and I am a student/university worker at ____________. The House just voted on a tax plan that will raise my taxes and make higher education even more expensive and inaccessible. As your constituent, I ask that you don’t adopt the House plan. Thank you.
