The newest tax proposal, currently making its way through Congress, would make higher education even more expensive and would raise taxes on education benefits.
Who woud be affected and how:
- Graduate students: You would now owe tax on the value of your grad student tuition waivers.
- Campus employees: You would now owe tax on the value of any tuition waivers.
- Spouse or child of a University employee: You would now owe tax on the value of any tuition discounts.
- ALSO, interest paid on student loans would no longer be tax deductible.
