[May 7, 2015] Yesterday, the Employees Retirement System (ERS) announced that Ilesa Daniels, TSEU activist and HHSC employee with over 24 years of service, won the election to serve on the Board of Trustees. Ms. Daniels won by only 41 votes out of the 30,000 votes that were cast.
“The credit for this huge victory goes to all the TSEU members and activists who worked hard to get the word out about the election and asked their coworkers and fellow retirees to vote for me. I pledge to be the voice for front-line state employees and retirees on the Board. I will work to protect our hard-earned benefits from those who want to see them cut.”
In September of this year, Ms. Daniels will begin her 6-year term on the Board. She is stepping in to the seat vacated by long-time TSEU activist and ERS Board member Yoly Griego, who decided not to run for reelection this year and endorsed Ms. Daniels to replace her. Ms. Griego leaves behind a strong legacy of standing up for state workers and retirees, and pushing back against cost increases and benefit cuts to our pensions and health care.
