HB 607, filed by Rep. Sarah Davis of Houston, would allow HHSC and DADS to close or consolidate any SSLC without any further legislative approval. SSLCs provide needed services to individuals with developmental disabilities that are not duplicated in other community placements. It would be traumatic to these vulnerable Texans to uproot them and place them in inappropriate settings or other SSLC’s, miles from their families, which may also face closure. Funding for IDD services should be increased to address the needs of all people who require these vital services.
Closure of SSLCs is a bad deal for residents, staff, and the community.

What to say:
My name is ____. I am a state employee, and I vote in your district.
I am calling you today because I oppose HB 607, which would give authority to DADS and HHSC to close state-supported living centers. SSLCs provide services for people with disabilities that are not offered by group homes. Will you oppose the passage of House Bill 607?
