This is a short survey for state employees–open to TSEU members and nonmembers–to determine the state’s current coronavirus response and how the Texas State Employees Union can help you navigate these uncertain times. The survey takes about 2 minutes to complete. If you have any questions or want to discuss further, please contact any TSEU office or your organizer.

BACKGROUND:
Last week, TSEU President Judy Lugo asked Gov. Abbott for the following:
- Enact emergency leave designations for employees to ensure they do not come to work while sick. (Unfortunately, many employees routinely report to work when they are sick because the possible loss of income creates a financial hardship for themselves and their family. This is especially true for any employees who do not have enough leave time to deal with an extended illness, and those who have exhausted or do not meet the length of service requirements to qualify for FMLA protections.)
- Temporarily change administrative requirements for extended sick leave, sick leave pool, and polices related to employees donating sick time to encourage sick employees to stay home instead of coming to work and spreading an illness.
On Monday, 3/16, The US House passed of the a bill that widens FMLA protections to cover employees with at least 30 days of service instead of one year, and would expanded benefits to cover time to quarantine or to take care of children out of school. The Senate has not passed the bill. We are closely watching this bill and will communicate more about it as soon as the Senate takes action.
