TSEU is a Social Justice Union and stands against anyone who denies the importance of Black leadership in the movement or speaks out against the principles of organizing and public protest. We have a long tradition of supporting the efforts of grassroots organizations that have participated with us in demanding rights of workers and public services. We back them in their demand to stop the use of military surplus weapons in our communities, shift bloated funding of police departments to much needed and underfunded public services especially public health and emergency services during the pandemic.
Our Union consists of majority black and brown and women. Workers who are fighting for their lives and the lives of their families in the middle of the pandemic. Workers who have their own battles with finding personal protective gear, hazard pay, COVID testing, inadequate training. This is not to mention retirees who are decades behind a cost of living increase. Yet we still must take a moment and make a statement in solidarity with Black Lives Matter. Those courageous protesters are our daughters and sons and family members.
