We are TSEU members who work in TDCJ Parole Division. We are parole officers, clerical staff, substance abuse counselors, and support staff. We are building a strong union in our agency to fight for:
1. Better pay and benefits to attract and retain quality staff. Parole officers and Substance Abuse Counselors in Texas make far less than their counterparts in other states, leading to high turnover rates throughout the agency. Clerical staff earn very meager pay and have little or no room for advancement.
2. Caseload standards. The agency’s stated goal of a 60:1 regular caseload maximum must become a reality. This will take additional funding from the legislature to hire more officers.
