The money is there – we have EARNED our share! PAY RAISE 2017

Take two steps today to help secure a much needed across-the-board pay raise for EVERY state employee!  If we don’t get it done in this session, it will be another two years before we have opportunity; and currently, state employee pay is not a high priority for our elected leaders at the capitol – WE NEED TO CHANGE THAT!

STEP ONE: SEND A MESSAGE (Pay Raise postcard campaign)

Contact any TSEU office or organizer for your PAY RAISE postcards! Send one to your State Representative and one to your State Senator TODAY! Follow up this action with a call to their office; use the same text from the postcard for your call.

[sample phone script] Hello, my name is _______. I’m a state employee at ___________.  I am asking you to both support and work for a statewide pay raise that is: a flat amount, across-the-board raise for all state employees, including university workers, of at least $6,000/year with no cuts to our health care or pension benefits.
[extra data] State employee pay has not kept up with the cost-of-living for over 30 years. Since 1987, pay for the average state employee has fallen behind the rising cost-of-living by nearly 42%. Many of us are struggling to make ends meet because of our stagnant pay and the rising cost of living. MEANWHILE. . .  employee turnover is on the rise, threatening our ability to provide services for millions of Texans.

STEP TWO: SHOW UP AND BE LOUD! (get your Lobby Day ticket)

Phone calls and postcards make a big statement; but so does showing up in person and talking face-to-face with your elected officials – Wednesday, April 12 (LOBBY DAY) is our chance to do this!  Not only is it one of the nation’s largest displays of state worker solidarity in the form of our march and rally, but it’s also our chance to take our stand for our jobs and the services we provide directly to our leaders in the Capitol.
If you have not already done so, get your Lobby Day ticket TODAY! We need to show our elected leaders in the capitol that WE are serious, committed, and will fight for what we deserve!
